There were 38 players including 17 juniors at the delayed 2022 British Small Board (13x13) Championship in The Old library of Pembroke College, Cambridge. More players wanted to enter, but they were restricted by the room capacity!

The first Tournament to be held by the UCL Go Club will be on April 15th. Details are on the events calendar and the associated info link. As usual with new tournaments please give them your support.

The Winter 2022-23 edition of the BGJ is now available for members to read in the Members' Area, with printed copies having being sent out to those that receive them.

The UK team was matched against Ireland, the other top C-League team, in round four. The teams agreed to play three of the games early, on the Monday, to avoid playing on Saint Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately the Irish team won all three and this left Tim Hunt to try and salvage a single game on the day itself. He kept the crowd entertained for a couple of hours until finally the massacre was complete. This put Ireland back on top and moved UK down to second or third on tie-break. The UK youth team played their final round match today in the European Youth Go Team Championship. The UK EYGTC team was drawn against Czechia and we knew that if we could win the match, and France could win against Romania, then we should finish in the medals. The same was true for our opponents. Both team managers tried to ensure we had a full team for the official match time so that it would be an exciting match.

The 2023 AGM will be held online by ZOOM at 20:00 on Thursday 20th April 2023. A meeting link will be issued shortly before the meeting.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This year as part of the transfer to incorporated status, two AGMs will be held on the same evening, using the same ZOOM session. The structure will be:

1. AGM of the unincorporated Association. This will include a final motion to dissolve the old Association, as the assets will have been transferred to the new incorporated body - as agreed in the 2022 AGM.

Scott Cobbold retained the British Youth Go Champion title by winning all his games at the championships held on Saturday 21st January. The event, covering the school year 2022 to 2023, was held, as was the 2021 British Youth Go Championships, at the Leicester County Bridge Club. 48 youngsters from 5 to 18 years old battled for the age group titles and awards were also given for best player below the 5k bar and for the best Novice.

The UK team beat Norway 3-1 in the third match of the Pandanet Go European Team Championship C League season. Unfortunately for Ireland their top board didn’t show up and, despite wins for Gavin Rooney and Philippe Renaut, they could only draw, with penalty points for the missing game. However this meant that the UK team moved up from second to top place. [See here for League Page with game records.]
